As Z dropped two bulging bags on the ground, I was instantly reminded of the first time we had shot together. After meeting at a happy hour for bloggers, we made plans for a collaboration shoot so Z (known to the world as Zaina of The Chic Chemist) could get her winter collection taken care of and I could try my hand (and camera) at a fashion/editorial shoot. Since I had never done one. Ever.
That cold winter morning over a year ago Z also showed up with an overflowing bag and a plan for shooting something like twelve outfits. I went from never shooting editorial before, to helping to manage a workflow of planned content, detail shots, and plenty of outfit changes. I always joke that it was the best first experience because now shoots with one or two outfit changes are nothing.
“I know it looks like a lot,” she grinned as she pushed her curls out of her face. “But I just wanted to have options!” By my count we only shot ten outfits this time, but we also only shot for a little over an hour. I can only imagine how many more outfits we could’ve done with more time, and if Z had more bags!
Z – working with you is always more like a really productive hang-out session than actual work. Thank you for being so prepared, but also so adaptable, which combine to create the perfect collaborative experience. I love laughing with you as you handle quick outfit changes, refuse to let me help carry bags, and occasionally lose a shoe or two along the way. I’m so sorry that COVID-19 meant we only got to do one capsule shoot this year, but fingers crossed for 2021!
