I’ve never walked around with a celebrity before, but I imagine that being with Ange of Hairspray and High Heels is something close.
While Ange has built a large and lasting online community, it isn’t that people specifically recognize her for her. Rather, it is the rainbow hair, badass outfit, and self-assured confidence that is like a magnet for the attention of folks passing by. As we worked our way around Longwood Gardens, I could feel people’s glances passing over me (and my camera) and landing directly on Ange, who, to her credit, was not fazed in the least. (Probably because this is just par for the colorful, spirited, and seemingly fun course that is her life.)
However, don’t be fooled by her fun and easy going demeanor. Ange is the real deal. Sure, she is who she is (curse words and all), but she also came to our shoot ready to work and make sure we got the most out of our time together. Even as we were continually interrupted by people commenting on her hair or her outfit, Ange would smile, thank them, and get her head right back into the shot. You see why I make the celebrity comparison, right?
Ange – thank you for reminding me that it is, in fact, ok to grab people’s attention and to be myself. While I probably (aka definitely) will not be dying my hair or getting into the bedazzled side of makeup options any time soon, I loved watching you own who you are and let other people simply deal with it. (Or, actually, admire it.) Even though the weather was a bit dreary, you proved that some crystals, some color, and a bright personality are no match for Mother Nature.
