While I always get a little nervous before any shoot, this one was something special. And even more nerve-wracking than normal. It is one thing to shoot strangers. Another to shoot friends. And another entirely to shoot a friend who is a fellow photographer.
Rachel (from Rachel Word Photography) has been a friend for many years, but, over the past year and a half, she has also become so much more. As I started to navigate this world of professional photography she has been a business coach, cheerleader, mentor plus tech support all in one generous and enthusiastic package. I will never stop texting her how grateful I am and she will never stop telling me that I’m too kind. It has kinda become our thing.
In an attempt to thank her for everything she’s given me, I offered to do a shoot for her. Which seemed like a good idea at the time… (I’m kidding – it was a good idea. It just didn’t feel like it in the five minutes before she arrived when I was so nervous that I thought all my photos would be blurry from my shaking hands.) Thankfully, Rach is not only generous and gregarious, but also gorgeous, so she made my job easy.
Rach, thank you for everything you’ve done for me. Thank you for being so open, honest, and also encouraging on the days that I felt like this was all too much. You truly are the definition of someone whose inner light shines through and makes them even more beautiful. I’m lucky to have you as my friend and I know that your clients are so lucky to have you as their photographer. Trying to build a business can be a tricky venture because the destination is both clear, but also vague. However, thanks to you, I know the type of business owner and person that I want to be.
